![]() ![]() ![]() Your weapons fire automatically so there’s no need to mash the screen. Here’s the first of the 20 odd action packed levels.Ĭontrol of your ship is via touchscreen by moving your finger left or right. It made me smile at the subtle additions like the 80’s high score counter sound FX and pixelised text font that’s been used. I’d hazard a guess that they are fans of so many Atari classics. The designers of this game have got the retro homage to classic vector games absolutely spot on. Here’s where it all starts, a simple menu giving you access to high scores and various game options including the ability to play your own tunes whilst in game – I’m thinking Xenon II ‘Megablast’ here. My friend wasn’t wrong, this is one hellava good old school shooter that looks and sounds absolutely brilliant. The name of the game is called Parsec (not to be confused with th TI99a classic) and is available for both iPad and iPhone (with an Android version to follow soon). Can’t put it down, need sleep, one more go! I know I'm not explaining this well, but iPadOS does not currently have "complete" mouse support, it was actually a pretty big deal during WWDC 2020 when they announced it would be coming, and companies like Shadow and Rainway have been really hard at work trying to implement the changes that iPadOS is bringing along.A friend of mine recommended this latest iPad game to me knowing that I was a fan of vector based arcade games and the MB Vectrex console.Īliens waves coming at you thick n fast, bullets flying everywhere all in stunningly lit neon vector graphics. As you know, this is incompatible with games which just use your mouse as a directional input without constraints. The key piece missing here is when playing something fullscreen your mouse still exists as a cursor constrained by the four borders of the iPads screen, as in the cursor is still "there" on the screen while you're using it. While iPadOS did get a much more full mouse experience than it ever had before, it is still not "complete" in iPadOS 13. Hopefully we can get some confirmation in the near future that Parsec intends on supporting Macs with Apple Silicon.Įhh, not exactly. ![]() Well, with Macs transitioning to Apple Silicon (ARM based) Parsec would have had to build a native ARM based client anyway if they wanted to continue to support the new Macs either way. Between Parsec and the updated mouse support coming in iPadOS 14 we are really close to have very powerful streaming from any of our devices!Įdit: In addition to all this, Parsec has always had a MacOS client, and I know people have been waiting for a very long time for an iOS client. I really do hope Parsec builds out official apps, and with it working properly in the SDK it would seem like the hard part is over. It is still unclear whether Parsec plans on releasing first-party clients for these OS yet, but anyone who licenses Parsec's software can now build iOS apps using Parsec to power it. The main caveat here is that it would seem Parsec has only brought this technology to their SDK, not the Parsec app itself. I’m not a programmer so perhaps I am reading into this incorrectly, and I would love some clarification if this is saying something different, but it would seem that they have their code working on both iOS and tvOS. Android, iOS, and tvOS minimum OpenGLES version bumped to 3.0.Fixed a bug that could prevent successful connections on iOS.The Linux libparsec.so shared object should now only require GLIBC 2.2.5.ParsecClientSetConfig added to allow decoder device changes on the fly.Client decoder selection is now possible via ParsecGetDecoders.ParsecMetrics struct now reports queued client frames pending decode.A new client event, CLIENT_EVENT_STREAM, is available to signal stream open success or failure. To enable a second stream, the client must call ParsecClientEnableStream.ParsecClientSetDimensions and ParsecClientPollFrame, now take the stream number as an argument Streams now have individual settings in ParsecClientConfig and ParsecHostConfig.Multiple video streams can now be received during a single client connection. This is their tweet from 2 days ago which also directs to their github release notes for their most recent update to the SDK: It seems like Parsec has their tech working on tvOS and iOS! ![]()
